#KogiCentralDecides: Why Online Poll?

…we understand that “politics is local,” but the world and leadership are global.

February, 2019 is going to be a moment of definition for the people of the central senatorial district of Kogi State as they are going to be marching to the polls to exercise their franchises. They will be electing one out of the contenders to represent them at the Red Chamber. From opinions, the district has never had the race this tough and critically followed as it has been since INEC opened the curtains for campaigns and primaries.

Indeed, there have been series of contentions, horse-trading, cross-carpeting hues and endorsements, being factors that brought the race to this baton point, hence needless to dwell on the political dealings.

While there are many parties jostling for the seat, we have selected the top three political contenders via random samplings, and will be testing their acceptance and popularity online. Unless the result of this poll is again carried out by voters on the field, this poll does not translate online popularity to take the day. However, the possibility of online voters exerting their influences on their families at the grassroots cannot be overemphasized.

Therefore, as the world rolls its balls into digitalization, it is expected that contenders for this seat takes this seriously, for we understand that “politics is local,” but the world and leadership are global.

From our sampling, the following political parties’ candidates (in alphabetic order) are the top three contenders;

-         Ahmed Salawu Ogembe (PDP): Ogembe is the incumbent senator representing the district under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party, and thinks by his performance; a second term is not too much to ask.

-         Natasha Hadiza Akpoti (SDP): Akpoti rode into her political ambition via her brave and independent struggles through activism to give a voice to the resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel Company. She thinks the struggle will be realizable if she gets one of the red seats.

-         Oseni Yakubu: He is the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, and currently serving as the Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, under the Governor Yahaya Bello led government of Kogi state. He hopes that a synergy with his Boss will give a turnaround for the people, if voted.

The dice is cast!

Please note that voting begins on Monday 8th and ends on Saturday 13th October, 2018; and every online tool will be deployed to ensure credibility. Results will be published as soon as collated by the resource center.
